Pierre Boncompain

Pierre Boncompain was born in Valence, France, the gateway to Provence, and today divides his time between studios in Paris and Provence with his wife and longtime muse, Colette. He is celebrated for luminous paintings and pastels of Mediterranean landscapes, still lifes, nudes, and bathers, using rich color in the tradition of Matisse. In 2018, he donated around 100 works from his own collection to his hometown region, which named a public square, Esplanade Pierre Boncompain, in his honor.
