Newly A24-Renovated Cherry Lane Theatre Holds Great Potential Starting September

DOWNTOWN—The Cherry Lane Theatre, located at 38 Commerce Street, has produced works by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, Luigi Pirandello, Samuel Beckett (Beckett’s play Happy Days had its world premiere at Cherry Lane in 1961) and Tennessee Williams, to name just a few, according to WebCitation archives of its website.

A24 purchased The Cherry Lane Theatre in 2023 for a little over $10 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and has since renovated the seating, upgraded technical systems, added a film projector and screen, and improved the concessions kiosk. The upgraded space will also feature a restaurant and bar called Wild Cherry, according to IlNewYorkese, curated by the Frenchette Group, which is behind Frenchette, Le Rock and Le Veau.
